Right after installing SharePoint 2013 you might run into the issue that when your users try to open an Excel file you run into the error message “This workbook cannot be opened because it is not stored in a trusted location. To create a trusted location, contact your system administrator.”. This can be easily resolved by adding your Site to the list of trusted locations as indicated below:

  1. Open Central Web Administration
  2. Click on Manage Service Applications
  3. Click on Excel services Application.
  4. Click on “Trusted file locations”
  5. Add your trusted location. You could easily just have http or https so that it accepts almost any site… I would just add my trusted sites (internal sites) to be safe.
